The government of Canada has set up many ways for foreign nationals to not just find a job here but also reside in the country together with their families, thanks to the Family Class Sponsorship Program.
This is one of the most generous family programs that has been created by a first – world country which means to say that Canada is really committed to keeping families together as much as possible. Just like the Skilled Worker Immigration Program, the Family Class Sponsorship is also divided into different categories that will suit the needs of every family member. This includes the following:
Spouses and Common – Law Partners:
If you want to bring your spouse or partner to Canada, you will most likely be presented with a number of options on how both of you can acquire permanent residency, and it can be rather complicated. Therefore, each option should be weighed carefully. There are two categories under the Federal Spousal Sponsorship, these are Inland and Outland. Be sure to consult an immigration officer or lawyer so that they can explain to you the pros and cons of the different programs available. Of course, you need to ensure that your spouse or partner is eligible in order for their application to be accepted. You need to also meet the sponsorship requirements of Canada (ex: financial support) so that your application can be processed easily. You can also have the option of choosing programs under the Provincial Family Class Sponsorship for your spouse or common law partner.
Parents and Grandparents:
Through this program, you can now bring with your parents or grandparents. This is best suited for people who are still single or those who are unmarried. However, there’s a yearly cap in the number of applications that’ll be accepted. All you need to do is for you to meet the sponsorship requirements for your parents/ grandparents (since you’ll be the one to sponsor them), and your parents/grandparents should also be able to meet the eligibility requirements needed which usually varies depending on the situation. Make sure to consult an immigration officer or lawyer to have you assess if this is the right program for you and your parents/grandparents.
Dependent Children:
If you are already a permanent resident or a Canadian citizen, and you wish to bring with you your dependent child/children (those below 18 years old), then you can do so under the Dependent Child Sponsorship program. Same rule goes, which means that your child should be eligible, and that you as the sponsor should also meet the sponsorship requirements.
Provincial Family Class Sponsorship Program:
Some provinces in Canada offer the Provincial Family Class Sponsorship to those relatives who were not able to meet the requirements of the federal programs. However, it’s only being offered occasionally so the availability can vary, which means that you cannot choose to reside in other places. This type of sponsorship program is always subject to change so better consult an immigration officer or lawyer first so that you and/or your family can see the most suitable immigration program.
Super Visa Program:
This is for those immigrants who intended to bring their parents/grandparents to Canada. As mentioned earlier, there are certain limitations to the number of applications being accepted every year under the Parents/Grandparents Sponsorship program, so once the cap is reached, you can have the option to apply under the Super Visa Program. This however, only grants an extension of a multi – entry visa for up to 10 years for your parents/grandparents. This is more suitable for such relatives who do not wish to become a permanent residency but can come and reside in Canada for up to 10 years or until they have applied and got accepted under a different Family Class program.
